About Us
Big Flavour, Little Pickle
The Little Pickle is a breakfast and lunch café inside Gales Wine Bar & Hotel in Llangollen — open Wednesday through Sunday from 8am. The menu is built around breakfast sandos, sourdough sandwiches at lunch, yogurt and granola, salads, quiches, and properly made coffee throughout the day.
Everything is homemade and locally sourced — Welsh halloumi, three Welsh cheeses, Perl Wen — and the sourdough across the sandwich menu is baked in-house every morning, not bought in. That detail matters: it’s the difference between a café and a counter that resells.
The name is close to our hearts — and it happened by accident. We were away on holiday, dreaming up ideas for the café, when Sophie’s phone buzzed with a message from her partner and the word “pickle” popped up on the screen. It made me laugh, because I call my partner Pickle too — and my dog is almost always Little Pickle.
We realised we’d both, without ever really deciding to, made “pickle” our word for the people (and the dogs) we love. So The Little Pickle felt like the perfect name: a way of sharing that same warmth with everyone who walks through the door. In our eyes, every visitor becomes one of our Little Pickles.
Launched in collaboration with Gales Wine Bar & Hotel — Llangollen’s neighbourhood wine destination — The Little Pickle sits at the crossing point of rustic Welsh sourcing, vintage American deli signage, and big flavour in a small space.
